Legal Tube-Fed .22 Rifles in New York State
Under New York’s SAFE Act, magazines are generally limited to 10 rounds. However, there is a
specific exemption: attached tubular magazines designed for .22 caliber rimfire ammunition are
NOT considered “large-capacity” devices. This means that many classic .22 rifles with tube-fed
magazines holding more than 10 rounds remain fully legal in New York State.
✔ Popular Legal Tube-Fed .22 Rifles:
• Marlin Model 60 (Semi-Auto): 14–18 rounds .22 LR depending on version. Affordable, reliable,
and highly popular.
• Henry Lever Action .22 Series: H001 and Golden Boy hold 15 rounds .22 LR / 21 rounds .22
Short. Classic lever guns.
• Winchester Model 9422 (Lever-Action, discontinued): About 15 rounds .22 LR / 21 rounds .22
Short. High-quality collectible rifle.
• Rossi Rio Bravo (Lever-Action): Around 15 rounds .22 LR. Budget-friendly Henry-style lever
action.

• Vintage Glenfield / Sears / Savage Tube-Fed .22s: Common older rifles with 12–18 round tube
magazines. Affordable and practical.
Key Reminder: Only tube-fed .22 rimfire rifles are exempt. Detachable magazine .22 rifles (e.g., Ruger
10/22) are limited to 10-round magazines in New York
